titleOfInvention A suitable procedure for the recovery of phosphorus from organic waste and a system for its implementation
abstract A process for the recovery of phosphorus from organic waste such as an activated sludge from a sewage treatment plant, which comprises solubilizing phosphorus contained in microorganisms from organic waste and precipitating it by crystallization in stages. The process comprises obtaining from the organic waste a first liquid stream rich in dissolved phosphorus and a second liquid stream poor in phosphorous but rich in dissolved ammoniacal nitrogen; subjecting the first stream to a first stage of phosphorus precipitation by crystallization of inorganic phosphorus in the form of phosphorous salts, promoted in the form of Brushite to precipitate calcium contained in said first liquid stream; and subjecting the output stream resulting from the first precipitation stage and the second liquid stream to a second stage of phosphorus precipitation by crystallization of inorganic phosphorus in the form of phosphorus salts, substantially in the form of Struvite in the absence or lack of Ca2 + that competes with magnesium and ammonium for the crystallization reaction, obtaining a reduced stream of Ca2 + and phosphorus resulting from the second precipitation stage, therefore specially conditioned for the application of nitrogen recovery methods sensitive to the presence of Ca2 +.
