titleOfInvention Methods and devices for displaying trends and variability in a series of physiological data
abstract A system for displaying trends and variability in a series of physiological data comprising: a patient monitoring device (1300); at least one sensor coupled to the patient monitoring device; a processor that is contained in the patient monitoring device and that receives patient data from at least one sensor; a display (1310) contained in the patient monitoring device and receiving display information from the processor; and at least one audible or visual alarm, in which the alarm is activated if a predetermined condition is met in the variability or trend of the physiological data series, where the predetermined condition is based on at least one of the following cases: ( 1) difference between the maximum and the minimum within a time window, (2) the value of the trend within a time window, and (3) area within the maximum envelope and the minimum envelope where the processor: gets the series of physiological data from at least one sensor; applies an attenuated algorithm to the physiological data series to obtain a trend from the physiological data series; applies a variability algorithm to the physiological data series to obtain the variability of the physiological data series; produces a real-time graph of the trend of the physiological data series on the screen; and produces a real-time graph of the variability of the physiological data series on the screen superimposed on the trend graph of the physiological data series, where the graph of the variability of the physiological data series comprises a visual envelope in real time limited in the upper part by a graph of the maximums identified by the variability algorithm and limited in the lower part by a graph of the minimums identified by the variability algorithm, where said maximums and minimums are identified within each time window on the one that estimates the variability.
