abstract |
Continuous process for the oxidative cleavage of unsaturated carboxylic acid derivatives for the production of saturated carboxylic acids characterized in that it comprises the steps of: a) feeding to a first continuous reactor at least one derivative of an unsaturated carboxylic acid, an oxidizing compound and a catalyst that can catalyze the oxidation reaction of the olefinic double bond to obtain an intermediate compound containing adjacent diols, and b) feeding said intermediate compound, an oxygen-containing compound and a catalyst that can catalyze the reaction of oxidation of the diols adjacent to carboxylic groups, to obtain saturated monocarboxylic acids (i) and derivatives of saturated carboxylic acids with more than one acid function (ii); b-i) separating the aqueous phase from the organic phase of the product obtained as an output from Step b); c) transferring the organic phase of the product of Step b) to a suitable apparatus to separate saturated monocarboxylic acids (i) from carboxylic acid derivatives having more than one acid function (ii); reagent feeding operations and product withdrawal taking place simultaneously throughout the duration of the process, the process conditions remaining substantially unchanged at each stage. |
