abstract | A method of preparing an optionally substituted cyclohexanone, which comprises reducing an optionally substituted phenol in the presence of a catalyst and hydrogen in a substantially solvent-free reactor, thereby obtaining the optionally substituted cyclohexanone; wherein the catalyst comprises (i) a catalytically active transition metal, (ii) a support comprising an oxide, and (iii) a promoter comprising an inorganic metal salt, wherein the promoter is present in an amount between 0 5 and 2.5% by weight of the catalyst; and wherein the promoter comprises a metal salt selected from the group consisting of Li, Na, K, Rb, and Cs, and preferably the promoter comprises sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, or a combination thereof. |
