abstract | A method of producing a block of calcium carbonate not less than 0.1 cm in diameter and thickness, useful as a material for providing artificial bone, which method: comprises: (a) shaping calcium hydroxide into a block of calcium hydroxide ; (b) exposing the calcium hydroxide block obtained in (a) to carbon dioxide using a carbonic acid incubator to partially carbonate the surface of the calcium hydroxide block, whereby a partial calcium carbonate block is obtained; and (c) immersing the partial block of calcium carbonate obtained in (b) in a solution containing carbonate ions consisting of water and carbonic acid gas dissolved therein, or consisting of water and a dissolved carbonate ion supplying substance. therein, wherein the carbonate ion supplying substance is selected from the group consisting of sodium carbonate, sodium hydrogen carbonate, potassium carbonate, potassium hydrogen carbonate, ammonium carbonate and ammonium hydrogen carbonate. |
