titleOfInvention Inhibition of naphthenic acid corrosion by the use of a new synergistic combination of phosphorus compounds
abstract A naphthenic acid corrosion inhibiting composition comprising a chemical mixture of: i) corrosion inhibiting amount of a compound A of sulfur, phosphorus and olefin; and ii) corrosion inhibiting amount of an organophosphorous compound selected from the group consisting of: a) compound B, and b) compound C; wherein said sulfur, phosphorus and olefin compound A is produced by reacting olefin with phosphorous pentasulfide in the presence of a catalytic amount of sulfur to form a reaction mixture, wherein the molar ratio of said olefin to said pentasulfide phosphorus is between 1: 0.05 to 1: 1.5, preferably 1: 1; wherein said olefin is polyisobutylene; wherein said compound B is a phosphate ester of the formula: ** (See formula) ** wherein each of R1 and R2 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and residues having one to thirty atoms carbon, and R3 is a residue having from one to thirty carbon atoms; and wherein said compound C is a nitrogen-excluding aryl-containing phosphite compound having a structure selected from the group consisting of: ** (See formula) ** wherein R1, R2 and R3 are aryl or C6 alkyl at C12 and at least one R group is an aryl radical; and wherein said corrosion inhibiting amount of said mixture of said compound A, and said one of the organophosphorous compound selected from the group consisting of said compound B, and said compound C is from 1 ppm to 5000 ppm.
