A method to characterize the morphological structures of sugar beet seeds using terahertz time domain spectroscopy, comprising the steps: - apply a terahertz pulse to the sugar beet seed grain, - measure the signal generated by the pulse terahertz after transmission through the seed grain, - determine the amplitude, time delay, phase and / or spectrum of the signal due to transmission, and - assign the seed grain to a class of default seed based on amplitude, time delay, phase and / or spectrum of the signal and division of the seed into six different classes: class 1 - empty kernels (no embryo) class 2 - full kernels (with a fully developed embryo ) class 3 - slightly shrunken or wrinkled (with a slightly shrunken embryo) class 4 - severely shrunk or wrinkled (with a severely shrunk embryo) class 5 - twin (with two embryos in one testa ) key 6 - bigermen (with two embryos in two testes) |
