titleOfInvention | Spore removal procedure using a vaporous peroxide composition |
abstract | Non-therapeutic method to eliminate bacterial spores, comprising: a dispersion of droplets of an aqueous composition in a carrier gas, the aqueous composition comprising water and peroxide, the aqueous composition having a concentration of peroxide that is hydrogen peroxide in the range of 0 0.1 to 6.5% by weight, wherein the aqueous composition further comprises an antimicrobial agent, which is peracetic acid, the concentration of the antimicrobial agent being in the range of 0.001 to 0.16% by weight, the ratio being in weight of antimicrobial agent relative to peroxide in the range of 0.001 to 0.2, and wherein the carrier gas is selected from air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, helium, argon, or a mixture of two or more thereof; vaporize the droplets to form a vaporous sporicidal mixture; and contacting the bacterial spores with the vaporous sporicidal mixture for a period of time sufficient to achieve at least a 4 log reduction in the number of spores capable of returning to vegetative growth, the spores being in a defined area, the concentration being of peroxide in the defined area in the range of 5 to 1000 parts per million. |
