abstract Method for verifying a processing protocol associated with a slide (322), the method comprising: automatically obtaining information from a first identifier (1640) associated with a slide (322) and information from a second identifier (920) associated with a cartridge of reagent (408; 1308), in which the information obtained from the first identifier (1640) is associated with a reagent to be applied to the slide (322) and the information obtained from the second identifier (920) is associated with a processing protocol ; associating the information obtained from the first identifier (1640) with the information obtained from the second identifier (920); automatically displaying associated information to verify that a correct processing protocol is associated with the slide (322); alerting a user in the event of a discrepancy between information obtained from the first identifier (1640) and information obtained from the second identifier (920); and generating a staining record based on the information obtained from the first identifier (1640) and the second identifier (920); wherein the step of automatically displaying the associated information comprises: displaying a slide location (322) within a sample processing system (100; 200; 400; 1900; 2000) and information obtained from the associated first identifier (1640) to the slide in a first table (2304; 2040); show a location of the reagent cartridge (408; 1308) within a sample processing system (100; 200; 400; 1900; 2000) and information obtained from the second identifier (920) associated with the reagent cartridge in a second table ( 2302; 2402); and juxtaposing the first table (2304; 2404) with the second table (2302; 2402) based so that information obtained from the first identifier (1640) and information obtained from the second identifier (920) are aligned based on the location of the slide (322 ) and the reagent cartridge (408; 1308).
