abstract An isolated nucleic acid molecule encoding a monokin, wherein the nucleic acid molecule comprises a first polynucleotide encoding the structural proteins of a functional monocin except for the corresponding natural receptor binding protein (RBP), wherein the encoded structural proteins by the first polynucleotide are at least 80% identical to SEQ ID NO: 7-16, wherein the nucleic acid molecule further comprises a second heterologous polynucleotide sequence encoding a heterologous RBP, wherein the RBP comprises a binding region to the support plate (BPAR) and a receptor-binding domain (RBD), and wherein monocin has bactericidal specificity against at least one strain of Listeria monocytogenes, or other Listeria species, or another genus of bacteria, determined by heterologous RBP and different from that determined by wild type RBP.
