Surface treatment for an implant surface |
abstract |
A method of forming an implant (10) to be implanted in living bone, wherein the implant is formed of a material comprising titanium, wherein the method comprises the acts of: deforming at least a portion of a surface of the implant to produce a first topography (80) on a micrometer scale; removing at least a portion of the surface to produce a second micrometer-scale topography (82) superimposed on the first topography, the second micrometer-scale topography being generally less coarse than the first micrometer-scale topography; and adding a submicron topography (84) superimposed on the first and second micron scale topography, where the submicron topography includes tube-shaped structures. |
