abstract | A process for preparing a compound of Formula (III), the process comprising contacting a compound of Formula (II) with a quaternary ammonium salt to form a compound of Formula (III): ** (See formula) ** in where: A is oxygen, sulfur, or nitrogen; R1, R2 and R3 are independently hydrogen, amino, halogen, {-} OH, {-} O1611, {-} SH, {-} SR1611, {-} NHR1611, {-} NR1611R1612, hydrocarbyl or substituted hydrocarbyl; R5, R6a, R6b, R7a, R7b, R8a R8b, R9, R10a, R10b, R14, R15a, R15b, R16a and R16b are independently hydrogen, amino, halogen, {-} OH, {-} O1611, {-} SH , {-} SR1611, {-} NHR1611, {-} NR1611R1612, hydrocarbyl or substituted hydrocarbyl; where any pair of R a and R b where is any of 6, 7, 8, 10, 15, 16, optionally together they form a radical chosen from {=} O, {=} S, {=} CH2, {= } NR1612, O {-} O (CH2) nO {-}, where n is an integer of 1 or greater; R18 is hydrocarbyl or substituted hydrocarbyl R1611 and R1612 are independently hydrocarbyl or substituted hydrocarbyl; one or more of R1, R2, R3, R5, R6a, R6b, R7a, R7b, R8a R8b, R9, R10a, R10b, R14, R15a, R15b, R16a and R16b can be part of a ring or ring system chosen from carbocyclic , substituted carbocyclic, heterocyclic, substituted heterocyclic, or a combination thereof; and the dashed lines between the carbon atoms at positions 6 and 7, 7 and 8 and 8 and 14 represent carbon-to-carbon bonds chosen from (a) single bonds between all carbon atoms, where optionally one of the pair of R6 and R14 form an alkane bridge; (b) single bonds between the carbons at both positions 7 and 8 and 8 and 14, and a double bond between the carbons at positions 6 and 7, where only one of the pair of R6 is present; (c) single bonds between the carbons at both positions 6 and 7 and 8 and 14, and a double bond between the carbons at positions 7 and 8, where only one of each pair of R7 and R8 is present; or (d) double bonds between the carbons at both positions 6 and 7 and 8 and 14, and a single bond between the carbons at positions 7 and 8, where only one of each pair of R6, R7, and R8 is present and R14 is not present; and wherein the quaternary ammonium salt consists of a quaternary ammonium cation and an anion selected from bromide, chloride or fluoride, and the molar to mole ratio of the compound of Formula (II) with respect to the quaternary ammonium salt is 1 : 10 to 1: 100. |
