abstract | A method of recovering media data, the method comprising: receiving (328), from a server device (60), a manifest file (66) comprising information indicating what type of a plurality of types of media segments included in a representation (68A to N) of a media content (64) fits, wherein the plurality of media segment types include: a delivery unit media segment format (202), in which a media segment conforming to the delivery unit media segment format (202) contains one or more complete self-contained movie clips; a random access media segment format (204), wherein a media segment conforming to the random access media segment format (204) conforming to the delivery unit media segment format (202) , and wherein the first access unit of each of the movie clips in the segment is an ISAU of a stream access point, SAP, of type 1, 2, or 3 ISO base media file format; a non-overlapping media segment format (206), wherein a media segment conforming to the non-overlapping media segment format (206) conforms to the delivery unit media segment format (202) and does not overlays start and end times of other representation segments (68A to N) and other segments of other representations (68A to N) of an adaptation set that includes representation (68A to N); and a switching media segment format (208), wherein a media segment conforming to the switching media segment format (208) conforming to the random access media segment format (204), and wherein the first sample of the first movie clip is an ISAU of a streaming access point, SAP, of ISO-based media file format type 1 30 or 2; determining (330), from said information, to which type of the plurality of types of media segments included in the representation (68A to B) of the media content (64) they conform; and using said determined type to retrieve (334, 340) media segments from said media content stream (64) from the server device (60). |
