Diagnostic apparatus (10) configured to analyze the gas obtained from a biological sample and provide a diagnosis as an output, the diagnostic apparatus comprising: a separation element (16), to separate the gas obtained from the biological sample in component parts; a sensor (48), configured to detect compounds present in the gas that may be indicative of disease, the sensor (48) being coupled to the separating element (16) in such a way that a component part of the gas is directed towards the sensor ( 48); and a processing element (20), coupled to an output of the sensor (48), the processing element (20) being configured to process a signal delivered by the sensor (20) to provide the diagnosis; characterized in that the sensor (48) comprises: a substrate (80), having a first and a second side; a resistive heater (82) on the first side; electrodes (84) on the second side; and a mixture (48, 50) of zinc oxide and tin oxide applied to the electrodes, to allow current to flow between the electrodes. |
