A grafted copolymer composition of a vinyl monomer and a vinylamine-containing functionalized base polymer in which the vinylamine-containing functionalized base polymer comprises randomly distributed repeating monomer units having the formulas (I), (II) and ( III), ** Formula ** in which R is an α, β-unsaturated alkylcarbonyl compound which has reacted by adding Michael to vinylamine in the polymer; n, p and q are the numbers indicating the molar% of the repeating units of formula (I), (II) and (III) present in the vinylamine-containing functionalized base polymer; and where n is at least 5 mol%, p is 1 mol% to 80 mol%, q is 1 mol% to 30 mol%; wherein the molar ratio of the vinylamine-containing functionalized base polymer to the vinyl monomer in the grafted polymer is in the range of 10:90 to 50:50. |
