abstract | A system for handling magnetic particles in a sample vial (46) comprising: a sample vial holding member (42) for holding the sample vial (46) containing magnetic particles; and, an array (34) of magnets comprising, a first magnet (56) comprising an upper horizontal surface and a vertical surface, wherein a south pole face of said first magnet (56) is positioned to face downwards. said sample vial (46), a spacer (58) comprising an upper horizontal surface, wherein said spacer (58) is located on said upper horizontal surface of said first magnet (56), a second magnet (60) comprising an upper horizontal surface, said second magnet (60) positioned on said upper horizontal surface of said spacer (58), wherein a south pole face of said second magnet (60) is positioned to face towards said vial (46) for samples, and a third magnet (62) located on said upper horizontal surface of said second magnet (60), wherein a north pole face of said third magnet (62) is located so as to face towards said vial (46) for samples and where said matrix (34) d and magnets is arranged to generate a magnetic field to manipulate said magnetic particles in said sample vial (46). |
