abstract |
A wood substitute article made from a solid state matrix stretched oriented polymer composition (OPC) comprising an orientable polymer and having a body with a longitudinal dimension greater than any other dimension forming the article of OPC and with a cross-sectional area greater than 4 cm2, said OPC article comprising: polymer chains of the orientable polymer aligned with the longitudinal dimension of the body; and wherein the OPC article has previously been shrunk by treatment in one time and at a stabilizing temperature such that the body exhibits longitudinal dimension stability of at least 99% when the OPC article is tested by heating for 24 hours at temperatures up to and including 71 degrees Celsius; wherein the OPC article comprises 25 weight percent or more and 60 weight percent or less of an inorganic filler material and is free of organic filler materials. |
