titleOfInvention Asbestos-containing steel scrap recycling process
abstract Process for recycling steel scrap that contains asbestos that is contaminated with friable asbestos, scrap that comprises a combination of steel and asbestos, the process of which comprises the steps of: transporting said steel scrap in an airtight container to a facility containing melting steps , and a) subjecting said asbestos-containing steel scrap to a temperature higher than the solidification temperature of said steel by completely immersing said steel scrap in a molten mass, comprising molten steel; b) allowing said steel scrap to melt and mix with said molten steel, while allowing slag to form, wherein said asbestos becomes non-crystalline material, which dissolves in said steel and / or accumulates in said scum; c) allowing said molten steel to cool, thereby forming a homogeneous steel scrap product that is substantially free of asbestos; and d) analyzing the homogeneous steel scrap product to produce a certificate of analysis so that said product can be used in steel mills to alter the composition of other steel melts; in which said steps a) and b) are carried out in an enclosure that is isolated from the environment in a substantially gas-tight manner that is obtained by maintaining said enclosure under a pressure that is subatmospheric and in which said hermetic container enters said installation while maintaining an underpressure.
