A method of removing carbon dioxide, comprising: contacting a carbon dioxide containing gas with an alkaline carbonate based carbon dioxide absorbent, containing an added sterically hindered cyclic amine; absorb carbon dioxide from the gas; and regenerating the carbon dioxide absorbent, wherein the alkali carbonate is at least one carbonate selected from a group consisting of potassium carbonate (K2CO3), potassium hydroxide (KOH), and potassium bicarbonate (KHCO3); wherein the carbon dioxide absorbent includes 16% by weight, or less, of an alkali carbonate and 10% by weight, or less, of a sterically hindered cyclic amine; and wherein the sterically hindered cyclic amine is at least one selected from the group consisting of 2-methyl piperazine and homopiperazine. |
