An isopropyl alcohol producing Escherichia coli comprising an isopropyl alcohol production system in which four enzyme activities - an acetoacetate decarboxylase activity, an isopropyl alcohol dehydrogenase activity, a CoA transferase activity and a thiolase activity - are introduced from outside the bacterial cell, or the expression of the four enzymatic activities is enhanced in the bacterial cell, or both of them are carried out, and where: (i) isopropyl alcohol-producing Escherichia coli further comprises at least one activity enhanced enzymatic selected from an enhanced malate dehydrogenase activity and an enhanced NAD (P) + transhydrogenase (AB-specific) activity; and (ii) the production rate and production yield of isopropyl alcohol is increased by the enhanced activity of malate dehydrogenase and / or NAD (P) + transhydrogenase (specific for AB), where the enhanced enzyme activity is at least one of enhancement by an enzyme gene introduced from outside the Escherichia coli cell or enhancement by enhanced expression of an enzyme gene in the Escherichia coli cell. |
