abstract | A method for determining the prognosis of a prostate cancer in a subject who has been diagnosed as having prostate cancer, comprising: (i) determining in a tissue sample from said subject, wherein said tissue sample comprises cancer cells of prostate, the level of FOXA1 protein or nucleic acid, in which the FOXA1 nucleic acid is optionally FOXA1 mRNA, (ii) determining the level of FOXC1 protein or nucleic acid in said tissue sample, in which the FOXC1 nucleic acid is optionally FOXC1 mRNA, (iii) calculating the ratio of said FOXC1 protein or nucleic acid to said FOXA1 protein or nucleic acid; (iv) comparing said ratio with a comparable FOXC1: FOXA1 ratio in a reference population of samples comprising prostate cancer cells in which a prognostic outcome is associated with each of the samples from the reference population; and (v) identify that said subject has a poor prognosis in relation to the prognostic outcome when the subject's FOXC1: FOXA1 ratio is equal to or greater than a FOXC1: FOXA1 cut-off ratio, and identify that said subject has a good prognosis relative to the prognostic outcome when the subject's FOXC1: FOXA1 ratio is less than the FOXC1: FOXA1 cut-off ratio, where the FOXC1: FOXA1 cut-off ratio corresponds to the minus the 50th percentile of the FOXC1: FOXA1 ratios from the reference population. |
