In vitro method for detecting a WHO grade III or grade IV brain tumor, in which the method comprises detecting the level of conversion of 5-ALA to protoporphyrin IX (PPIX) associated with microparticles derived from the brain in a serum sample or whole blood from a subject who has been administered a pharmaceutical composition comprising 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA); thereby detecting WHO grade III or grade IV brain tumor. |
