titleOfInvention Surgical fixation of variable depth
abstract A device (100) for applying a plurality of clips (200, 250), one at a time, to the tissue (300) of a patient, the device (100) comprising: a handle (102) including a trigger (105 ); a shaft (103) extending from the handle (102) along a longitudinal axis; and an applicator section (101) having the plurality of clips (200, 250) disposed therein, each of the plurality of clips (200, 250) formed as a single piece with two termination ends, including one of the two termination ends of each of the clips (200, 250) a hook (202), and the other of the two termination ends of each of the clips (200) including a loop (203); and the device (100) characterized by further comprising: a first element (302, 352) and a second element (303, 357) arranged within the applicator section (101) and movable outside and inside the section (101) applicator to apply, one at a time and at different depths of penetration, at least a portion of each of the clips (200, 250) out of the applicator section (101) and into the patient's tissue (300) after activation of the trigger (105) by an operator of the device (100), the first element (302, 352) having a substantially straight conformation and being configured to engage the hook (202, 261, 271) of one of the clips (200, 250), move parallel to the longitudinal axis, penetrate the tissue (300) of the patient, and transport the hook (202, 261, 271) through the tissue (300) of the patient when the first element (302, 352) moves from inside the applicator section (101) out of the applicator section (101), com the second element (303, 357) engaging a flexible needle (306) housed in an insertion tube (307), the flexible needle (306) having a pre-curved distal section configured to engage the loop (203) of that one of clips (200, 250), move parallel to the longitudinal axis, bend as they extend from applicator section (101) to penetrate patient tissue (300) in a curved path, and transport loop (203) through the tissue (300) of the patient when the second element (303, 357) moves from the interior of the applicator section (101) out of the applicator section (101), thereby bringing the two ends of the clip (200 , 250), configured the first element (302, 352) and the second element (303, 357) to fasten the hook (202) to the loop (203) within the tissue (300) of the patient when the first element (302, 352) ) and the second element (303, 357) are fully extended out of the applicator section (101), in where the plurality of clips (200, 250) can be fastened at different depths, the first element (302) 352) and the second element (303, 357) are also configured to leave the fastened clip (200, 250) within the tissue of the patient (300) and to engage the hook (202) and the loop (203) of another of the clips (200, 250) when the first element (302, 352) and the second element (303, 357) are retracted back to applicator section (101).
