abstract Antiadrenomedulin antibody (ADM) or anti-ADM antibody fragment that binds to adrenomedulin or non-IgM anti-ADM scaffolding that binds to adrenomedulin for use in the therapy of an acute disease or an acute condition of a patient suffering from chronic and / or acute disease or an acute condition for the prevention or reduction of organic dysfunction or the prevention of organ failure in said patient, wherein said antibody or antibody fragment or non-Ig scaffold binds to a region of minus 4 amino acids within the aa 1-21 sequence of mature human ADM: YRQSMNNFQGLRSFGCRFGTC (SEQ ID No. 23), and wherein said organ is selected from the group comprising heart, kidney, liver, lungs, pancreas, small intestine and spleen, and in which said chronic or acute disease or an acute condition, respectively, is selected from the group comprising severe infections, inflammatory response syndrome systemic (SIRS), sepsis, diabetes, cancer, acute and chronic vascular diseases such as heart failure, myocardial infarction, stroke, atherosclerosis, shock such as septic shock and organic dysfunction, liver dysfunction, burns, surgery, trauma , poisoning and damage induced by chemotherapy.
