titleOfInvention Cerium oxide (IV) method and device with exceptional biological pollutant removal properties
abstract A method for removing biological contaminants from an aqueous stream, comprising: contacting a cerium (IV) oxide composition with an aqueous stream containing biological contaminants, where the following points are true: (i) the oxide composition cerium (IV) has a zeta potential at pH 7 not exceeding 30 mV and greater than 1 mV; (ii) the cerium (IV) oxide composition has a D10 particle size greater than 0.5 μm and not greater than 7 μm; (iii) the cerium (IV) oxide composition has a D50 particle size greater than 2 μm and not greater than 20 μm; (iv) the cerium (IV) oxide composition has a D90 particle size greater than 12 μm and not greater than 50 μm; (v) the cerium (IV) oxide composition has a crystallite size greater than 1 nm and not greater than 22 nm; and (vi) the cerium (IV) oxide composition has an acid site concentration greater than 0.0001 acid sites / kg and not more than 0.020 acid sites / kg; and wherein contacting the cerium (IV) oxide composition with the aqueous stream containing biological contaminants removes a certain part of the biological contaminant from the aqueous stream containing biological contaminants.
