abstract |
Using a viscosity modifier (B), in a 10 to 100 TBN marine diesel cylinder lubricant using ASTM D2896 or a trunk piston engine oil that has a TBN of 25 to 60 using ASTM D2896, to reduce the consumption of the resulting lubricating oil composition while improving the carbon deposition properties of said oil composition: wherein the viscosity modifier (B) is used in the form of (i) a polymer comprising a core and a plurality of polymeric branches extending therefrom or (ii) an olefinic copolymer, the viscosity modifier (B) being dispersed in a diluent oil having a kinematic viscosity at 100 ° C in the range of 6 mm2 × s-1 to 15 mm2 × s-1 and wherein the viscosity modifier (B) is used in an amount in the range of 0.01% to 40%, by mass, of the resulting lubricating oil composition, wherein said oil composition also comprises (A) one or more additives in the respective minority quantities and contains less than 0.5% by mass of refined heavy oil. |
