abstract A system for sequencing nucleic acid templates, comprising: (a) an array of sites, where each site includes a first nucleic acid template and a second nucleic acid template, wherein the first nucleic acid template has a sequence that is different from the sequence of the second nucleic acid template; (b) a first primer attached to the first template; (c) a first species of polymerase suitable for spreading the first primer attached to the first template; (d) a first set of nucleotide analogs suitable for producing a first primer extension product extending from the first primer, wherein the first primer extension product comprises a first nucleotide analog at each of the sites ; (e) a second primer attached to the second template; (f) a second species of polymerase suitable for spreading the second primer attached to the second template; (g) a second set of nucleotide analogs suitable for producing a second primer extension product extending from the second primer, wherein the second primer extension product comprises a second nucleotide analog at each of the sites ; wherein the first polymerase species is different from the second polymerase species, and where the first set of nucleotide analogs is different from the second set of nucleotide analogs; and (h) a detector to detect the first primer extension product and the second primer extension product at each of the sites.
