abstract | Citrus sadness virus-based vectors for the expression of exogenous gene (s). Disclosed herein are viral vectors based on modifications of citrus tristeza virus useful for transfecting citrus trees for beneficial purposes. Included in the disclosure are viral vectors that include one or more gene cassettes encoding heterologous polypeptides. The gene cassettes are placed at desirable locations in the viral genome, such as the p23-3'NTR region, such that expression is allowed while preserving virus functionality. Methods of transfecting plants and plants transfected with viral vector embodiments are also disclosed. |
