titleOfInvention | PROCEDURE FOR DISCOLORING ROUGH AND DARK AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS OF MALEIC ACID |
abstract | Dark crude aqueous maleic acid solution is decolourised by contacting with activated carbon and cation exchange resin in the acid form, at a temperature between 10 DEG and 110 DEG C., under such conditions that it contacts at least some resin after it has contacted carbon. The solution may be passed through a zone of activated carbon, of resin and finally activated carbon or the carbon and resin may be intimately mixed. Cation exchange resins may contain sulphonic, phosphonic, carboxylic or phenolic groups on for example a styrenedivinyl benzene copolymer, a polyhydric pehnol-formaldehyde resin, or a resorcinolformaldehyde resin, and the decolourising agent may be activated charcoal or activated bone char. |
