A process for generating separately chlorous acid and chlorine dioxide, comprising the steps of (a) generating chlorous acid from an aqueous chlorite salt solution, an aqueous chlorate salt solution, or a combination of the same, and then (b) separately contacting the chlorous acid obtained from step (a) with a catalytic material selected from the group consisting of platinum, palladium, manganese dioxide and carbon, in a humid environment, to form chlorine dioxide. |
