titleOfInvention A PROCEDURE FOR THE PRODUCTION OF DRY SOLIDS FROM FERMENTATION BROTHS
abstract Stabilized dried fermentation harvest mash solids containing a tetracycline antibiotic are produced by adjusting the pH of a fermentation harvest mash containing a tetracycline antibiotic to a pH in the range 0.1-3.0, raising the pH of the acidulated harvest mash to a pH in the range of 8.4-13 and thereafter filtering and drying the harvest mash solids so as to stabilize the dried harvest mash solids against loss in antibiotic potency. Specified harvest mashes treated are those containing tetracycline, chlortetracycline, oxytetracycline and, demethyl tetracycline and demethyl chlortetracycline, obtained for example by elaboration of a strain of streptomyces aurofaciens or streptomyces Rimosuo. Specified acids for adjusting the pH are hydrochloric or sulphuric acid and specified alkalis are alkali metal and alkaline earth metal hydroxides e.g. sodium hydroxide. Specification 949,632 is referred to.
