abstract | A process for producing a single xylene isomer from feed streams containing C8 aromatics and C9 and heavier aromatics, comprising: (a) a distillation process comprising two xylene columns separating C8 aromatics from C9 and heavier aromatics contained in at least one lower boiling point feed stream and at least one higher boiling point feed stream, wherein the at least one higher boiling point feed stream has a higher content aromatic compounds C9 and heavier than the at least one lower boiling point feed stream, the distillation procedure comprising: distilling the at least one higher boiling point feed stream in a first xylene column at a first pressure to separate a first stream of C8 aromatics from a prim was C9 and heavier aromatics stream, distill the at least one lower-boiling feed stream in a second xylene column at a second pressure to separate a second C8 aromatics stream from a second C9 aromatics stream and heavier, where the second pressure is greater than the first pressure, and an overhead stream from the second xylene column exchanges heat with a kettle from the first xylene column; (b) a xylene isomer separation process to recover the individual xylene isomer from one or more of the first and second C8 aromatics streams by injecting one or both C8 aromatic streams and a desorbent stream into a process adsorption to obtain a first mixture comprising the individual xylene isomer and desorbent and a second mixture comprising a raffinate and desorbent; and (c) a desorbent recovery process to separate the first mixture from step (b) by distilling the first mixture in an extraction column at an operating pressure of at least 300 kPa to produce a stream comprising the isomer of individual xylene and a desorbent stream, and returning the desorbent stream to the xylene isomer separation process; wherein an overhead stream from the first xylene column of step (a) provides heat to a kettle of the stripping column. |
