Electrochemical process, comprising the process steps: a) loading a solvent or a mixture of solvents as well as a conductive salt in a reaction vessel, b) adding a phenol with an oxidation potential | EOx1 | to the reaction vessel, c) add a naphthol with an oxidation potential | EOx2 | to the reaction vessel, adding in excess the substance with the highest oxidation potential, and fulfilling: | EOx1 | - | EOx2 | > = | ΔE | and the solvent or solvent mixture is chosen so that | ΔE | is in the range of 10 to 450 mV, d) incorporating two electrodes into the reaction solution, e) applying a voltage to the electrodes, f) coupling phenol with naphthol to form a cross-coupled product. |
