A construction element to form an expansion joint (202), in which the construction element acts as a physical and chemical barrier to prevent the entry of insects into a structure, the construction element comprising a polymeric foam containing at least an insecticide (201), substantially distributed throughout the polymer foam; and wherein the polymer foam has a cell size of about 0.5 to 2 mm, optionally 0.5 mm to 1 mm; and where the polymer foam has a density of between 23 to 28 kg / m3; and where the polymer foam is closed cell polymer foam; characterized in that, on at least one outer surface of the construction element, there is a waterproof adhesive (203) attached thereto, and a removable cover (204) releasably attached to the adhesive, whereby the removable cover is adapted to withdraw when the construction element is applied; wherein the polymeric foam has a compression adjusted to 22 hours of less than 6%; and wherein the polymer foam mainly comprises linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and low melting ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA). |
