titleOfInvention Process of removing metals from a hydrocarbon feedstock using esters of carboxylic acids
abstract Process for removing metals from a hydrocarbon feedstock using esters of carboxylic acids, comprising the steps of: a) mixing a hydrocarbon stream containing metals and salts thereof, in which the metal is calcium and its salt is Calcium naphthenate, with an effective amount of an aqueous solution for extracting additives that do not precipitate and are not metal removal contaminants, comprising a chemical compound selected from the group consisting of: i) methyl or ethyl or propyl or isopropyl monoester of any one of the carboxylic acids selected from the group consisting of maleic acid, maleic anhydride and fumaric acid, and ii) methyl or ethyl or propyl or isopropyl diester of any one of the carboxylic acids selected from the group consisting of maleic acid, anhydride maleic and fumaric acid, or iii) an appropriate combination of said esters, and iv) a appropriate combination of any of said esters with any of said carboxylic acids, to form a hydrocarbon phase and an aqueous phase containing the metal ions; b) allowing the formation of said aqueous phase and said hydrocarbon phase, wherein said aqueous phase includes a water-soluble metal-acidic ionic complex of the calcium salt of said additive; c) separating or allowing said two phases to separate by themselves in a crude desalination plant, or by using any of the conventional separation procedures; d) removing the aqueous phase separated from step (c) containing said metal-acid complex; e) process the hydrocarbon phase separated from step (c) by the downstream hydrocarbon processing technique; wherein the contact time between said aqueous extraction solution and said hydrocarbon stream during the mixing action of step (a) is in the range of two seconds to six hours, preferably five seconds to two hours; wherein the temperature in said desalination plant is in the range of 93 ° C to 163 ° C; and wherein the percentage by weight of the dosage of said chemical compound ranges from 0.001 to 5 by weight of said desalination washing water.
