abstract | A transgenic tomato plant or a transgenic tomato seed, or a transgenic tomato plant cell comprising resistance to plant virus species of at least two of the Geminiviridae, Bunyaviridae and Flexiviridae families, in which resistance is provided by the minus two different modes of action selected from (a) expression of a nucleic acid construct that produces interfering dsRNA with the expression of a virus envelope protein gene, a virus movement protein gene, or a virus replication; (b) expression of a nucleic acid construct that produces interfering miRNA with the expression of a virus coat protein gene, a virus movement protein gene, or a virus replication gene; and (c) expression of a terminal sequence of the genomic segment of tospovirus that inhibits virion assembly, in which the resistance provided against at least one of the plant virus species is provided by the expression of a terminal repeat sequence of the Tospovirus genomic segment that inhibits tospovirus virion assembly, wherein in addition the tospovirus genomic terminal repeat sequence is selected from a nucleic acid sequence comprising SEQ ID NO: 167, a nucleic acid sequence comprising the SEQ ID NO: 168, a nucleic acid sequence comprising SEQ ID NO: 376, a nucleic acid sequence comprising SEQ ID NO: 377, a nucleic acid sequence comprising SEQ ID NO: 378, and a sequence of nucleic acid comprising SEQ ID NO: 455. |
