abstract | A hard, compressed, rapidly dissolving dosage form adapted for direct oral dosing and capable of rapidly dissolving in the patient's mouth with a minimum of grains or other organoleptically unpleasant species and thereby releasing the active ingredient, being the dosage form being formed by direct compression of the active pharmaceutical ingredient in bulk and a matrix, said matrix comprising a non-direct compression filler consisting of mannitol in an amount of between 25 and 95% by weight; and a hydrophobic lubricant in an amount between 1 and 5% by weight; said oral dosage form having a friability of 2% or less when tested in accordance with U.S.P .; wherein 85% of the non-direct compression filler particles are less than 100 µm; and wherein the non-direct compression load has not been physically modified to convey greater fluidity and compressibility. |
