titleOfInvention | Compositions and methods to inhibit an adverse immune response in histocompatibility transplantation that do not match |
abstract | A cellular composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and navel-derived cells derived from human umbilical cord substantially free of blood, for use in inhibiting an adverse immune response in a transplant recipient that is of matching histocompatibility for the donor of the transplantation, in which said cells are derived from umbilical cord tissue substantially free of blood, are capable of self-renewal and expansion in culture, have the potential to differentiate into cells of at least one neural phenotype, in which the cells require L -valine for growth, do not produce CD45 and CD 117 and can grow in at least about 5% oxygen, and in which the cells comprise the following characteristics: a) potential for at least 40 duplications in culture; b) binding and expansion in a coated or uncoated tissue culture vessel, wherein a coated tissue culture vessel comprises a coating of gelatin, laminin, collagen, polyiorithin, vitronectin, or fibronectin; c) production of vimentin and actin from smooth-alpha muscle; d) production of CD10, CD13, CD44, CD73 and CD90; e) expression of a gene, which, in relation to a human cell that is a fibroblast, a mesenchymal stem cell, or an iliac crest bone marrow cell, is increased for a gene encoding interleukin 8 and reticulon 1. |
