A method of analyzing a sample, comprising the steps of: applying a method of separation to heparin in the sample to produce a modified polysaccharide having a signature component; quantitatively evaluate the signature component in the sample; and comparing the heparin in the sample with a reference database of identical sized polysaccharides such as heparin, in which the polysaccharides in the reference database have also undergone the same method of separation as the heparin in the sample , to analyze the sample in this way; wherein the signature component is: (a) a tetrasaccharide of the AT-III binding domain of heparin; (b) a tetrasaccharide from the FGF binding domain of heparin; (c) ΔUHNAc, 6SGHNS, 3S, 6S; (d) ΔUHNS, 6SGHNS, 3S, 6S; (e) ΔUHNAc, 6SGHNS, 3S; or (f) ΔUHNS, 6SGHNS, 3S. |
