titleOfInvention | Flexographic printing process with wet to wet capacity |
abstract | Flexographic printing process, characterized by including the following steps: a) providing a radiation curable ink suitable for wet flexographic printing on wet, said ink including a combination of one or more non-reactive polymers and optionally one or more non-reactive solvents with the less a monomer and / or reactive oligomer, pigments and additives, whereby said polymer (s) is / are soluble (s) or partially soluble (s) in said monomer (s) and / or oligomer (s), where the ink is a gel that is temporarily placed in a liquid state with adequate viscosity for use in flexographic printing and that returns to a gel state after being applied to a substrate, where the ink is free of volatile organic compounds and does not contain solvents, or is based on gel formation or gel temporary dissolution by controlling the Hansen solubility parameter of the ink system by very small changes in the amount of the solvent with the correct Hansen solubility parameter to adjust the state from liquid to gel or vice versa, where the polymer is present in a range of between 0.1% and 10% in a medium of more than 50% liquid of the final formulation , where most of it is composed of the monomer or reactive nonvolatile monomers and oligomers; b) print on the substrate a first layer of said ink; c) placing said first printed ink layer in a gel state, said gel ink layer having sufficient strength to resist subsequent printing steps; d) subsequently printing a second ink layer in a liquid state on at least part of said first previously gelled ink layer, changing said second ink layer to a gel layer when printing; e) print all sequential ink layers following steps a) to c) to the point where all colors are applied on the substrate, f) simultaneously cure all ink layers at the end of the process using EB or UV radiation, where the ink in the gelled state has a hardness of at least 4 Shore 00 and at most 50 Shore 00, according to the standard test method for properties of ASTM D2240-05 rubber. |
