abstract |
A method for the early stage diagnosis of prostate cancer in a subject, comprising determining the presence of low-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (NIP-BG) in said subject, comprising: (a) providing a sample of the subject, having previously considered the negative subject for prostate cancer; (b) detecting the presence or absence in the sample of a gene fusion having a 5 'portion of a transcriptional regulatory region of an androgen-regulated gene and a 3' portion of an ERG gene by detecting chromosomal rearrangements of Genomic DNA using a nucleic acid hybridization technique, and (c) detecting the level of ERG protein expression using an immunohistochemistry assay in which the presence in the sample of both the gene fusion detected in step (b) and of the ERG overexpression detected in step (c) is indicative of low-grade PIN in the subject. |
