A separation process comprising: substantially continuously contacting an ion exchange resin that is subjected to an ion exchange with silver ions with a feed stream comprising the E and Z isomers of at least one selected alkene alcohol from the group consisting of the E and / or Z isomers of 2-butenoles, 2- pentenoles, 2-hexenoles, 3-hexenoles, 2-heptenoles, 3-heptenoles, ester derivatives, ethers, and acetals thereof and mixtures of the same, and, optionally, one or more contaminants or impurities, in which the ion exchange resin is a macroporous styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer with sulfonic acid or sulfonic acid salt groups; removing at least one stream of product having a greater isometric purity of the E or Z isomer of at least one alkene alcohol or ester derivative, ether, and acetal of the alkene alcohol, relative to the isomeric purity of the E or Z isomer of the alkene alcohol or derivative of alkene alcohol in the feed stream. |
