titleOfInvention A method to monitor the presence of biofilm-forming microorganisms in the paper industry
abstract A method for detecting the presence of biofilm-forming microorganisms in a paper or cardboard manufacturing process to determine the need for an antibiofilm agent in the process, characterized by the steps that comprise: (a) submitting a sampling device comprising a plurality of elongated protrusions supported on a support in the process line for a period of time to allow said microorganisms to form a biofilm in situ in said process on the sampler surface, (b) treat the sampler surface with said biofilm formed on the same in solutions of one or more antibiofilm test agents in one or more concentrations, over a period of time in a treatment device provided with a plurality of cavities, arranged to receive a protrusion of the sampling device in each cavity thereof, then (c) contact the sampler surface with said biofilm the over it with a liquid growing medium in the cavities of a culture device provided with a plurality of cavities containing the growing solution, a bulge in each cavity, for a period of time, (d) withdraw the solution from development and the sampler of the cavities of said culture device, perform a staining of the biofilm-forming microorganisms adhered to the walls of the cavities by using a staining agent, and qualitatively and / or quantitatively detect the presence or absence of biofilm-forming microorganisms adhering to the walls of the cavities.
