abstract Method for the production of omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids comprising cultivating a mixobacterial strain that can produce one or more omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids, characterized in that the mixobacterial strain is selected from the genus Aetherobacter which has vegetative cells that are moderately long cylindrical bacilli and thin with blunt ends, with movement by sliding on the surface and under the agar, a transparent-clear film-like colony that moves in swarms, which are negative for Congo red, edges characterized by coherent migratory cells, which penetrate mainly under the solid medium, slightly lowered agar, the thin bacilli myxopores refracting with blunt ends, shorter than the vegetative cells and enclosed in sporangium walls, with fruiting bodies such as tiny ovoid sporangioli, with omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids as main components of fatty acids The cell phones, which have a G + C percentage of 68.0-70%, and that have a 16S rDNA sequence identity of at least 96% with respect to SEQ ID NO: 1, to SEQ ID NO: 2 or to SEQ ID NO: 4, from Sorangium cellulosum DSM 14627 and from Enhygromyxa saline DSM 15217.
