titleOfInvention Electrode arrangement for a strip of blood test sensors
abstract A system comprising a blood sample analysis device that has a plurality of device contacts; and an elongate sensor strip (20) comprising a plurality of test sites arranged in series on the strip in a direction (12) of travel in which the strip travels when advanced through the sample analysis device of blood, in which each test site includes a lancet hole (30) through which a lancet (72) can be injected into the body of a subject, electrodes (41, 42) to determine a volume of a sample of blood, and electrodes (43, 44) for analysis to determine a characteristic of the blood sample; wherein each analysis site comprises: a layer (50) of non-conductive substrate; a conductive layer on the substrate layer forming pads (33, 34, 37, 45, 49, 53, 73) conductive defined by non-conductive lines; and a non-conductive cover layer (90) superimposed on the conductive layer having a window (52) that exposes a plurality of the conductive pads, in which the conductive pads are formed by depositing the conductive layer and recording the non-conductive lines for forming an array of rows (21, 22, 23, 24) and columns (25, 26, 27, 28) of conductive pads, in which the conductive pads are arranged in at least four columns that extend along the direction of travel and aligned with the respective contacts of the device to make electrical contact between the contact pads and the respective contacts of the device and in at least three separate rows along the direction of travel and corresponding to the respective stop positions in a puncture / analysis procedure, in which the stop positions are a puncture stage position, a detection stage position n blood volume and a stage of analysis of a blood characteristic; and wherein each of the conductive pads has a leading edge in the direction (12) of travel of the strip, and the leading edge of at least a first of the conductive pads in one of the rows is, with respect to the direction of travel, in front of a leading edge of a second of the conductive pads in the same row, so that electrical contact is made between the first conductive pad and the contact of the aligned device respectively before making electrical contact between the second conductive pad and the contact of the device aligned with it.
