Formulation to swallow comprising: a) a therapeutic compound that is a base, a salt of a base, or an amphoteric compound, or a salt of an amphoteric compound, b) one or more pH modulating agents at which less a pH modulating agent is sodium bicarbonate or potassium bicarbonate in an amount that will neutralize 0.01 to 9.0 millimoles of hydrochloric acid and is present in an amount of about 1% to about 50% by weight of the formulation to swallow, the amount of said bicarbonate being from 1 to 199 mg per tablet, and c) a water absorbing agent, in which at least about 70% of the therapeutic compound dissolves from the formulation to swallow in 180 seconds in the dissolution apparatus 2 of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) with 900 ml of 0.0033 N hydrochloric acid at 30 rpm and 37 ° C. |
