abstract An antimicrobial composition comprising: a complex of an anionic polyester with silver, where the anionic polyester can be obtained through: (A) ring opening polymerization of aliphatic lactone monomers in the presence of an organometallic catalyst and an initiator that it contains at least one carboxylic acid group and one primary hydroxyl group, where the anionic polyester has the formula: ** Formula ** where 800> => x + y + w >> = 5; and >> = 0; x >> = 0; w >> = 0; n, m, p and z range independently from 1 to 12; R2, R3, R4, R5, R6 are independently H or a linear or branched alkyl group with almost 1 to 12 carbon atoms; X is -O-; and R7 and R8 are independently H, a linear or branched alkyl group with 1 to 12 carbon atoms or a -COOH group, or (B) the condensation polymerization of a diol with a diacid, where the molar ratio between the diol and the diacid is less than 1, where the anionic polyester has the formula: ** Formula ** where 1 <> = m '<> = 13; 1 <> = n '<> = 9; and x 'is the degree of polymerization and ranges from almost 4 to almost 50, and where the amount of silver in the complex is 0.05% to 50% by weight.
