titleOfInvention | Cardboard container for active packaging of fresh fruits and vegetables, and its manufacturing process |
abstract | Cardboard container for active packaging of fresh fruits and vegetables, and manufacturing process thereof. # This invention is related, in general, to the field of technology for packaging of vegetable products, such as whole fresh fruits and vegetables that usually have certain surface microbial load. Specifically, this invention relates to a new carton package characterized by having an active antimicrobial coating, based on a polymeric compound in combination with essential oils that form inclusion complexes with cyclodextrins. The vapors of the essential oils are released from the cardboard as relatively high relative humidity is reached in the vicinity of this coating that is next to the packaged product, and these vapors have an antimicrobial action against fungi, yeasts and bacteria, both altering Product quality as pathogens for consumers. This new package manages to significantly increase the food safety and shelf life of the food that is packaged in it. |
