Process to remove pollutants from gas streams |
abstract |
A method of removing pollutants from a waste gas stream containing sulfur dioxide and pollutant nitrogen oxides in a sulfuric acid production process comprising the steps: a) contacting said stream of residual gas with ozone by injecting said ozone in said waste gas stream, so that nitrogen oxides react with said ozone to form N2O5 and nitric acid; b) directing said waste gas stream to a particle scrubber, wherein said particle scrubber removes N2O5 and nitric acid from said waste gas stream; c) directing said waste gas stream substantially free of nitrogen oxides to a gas dryer; and d) recover said waste gas stream. characterized in that said residual gas stream is contacted at a temperature of 65 ° C to 135 ° C with ozone. |
