A method to detect the presence of risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in a live mammal, or to aid in the diagnosis and subclassification of AD, a method that comprises determining the amount (relative) or the presence, absence or alteration of a set of target biomarkers in a sample of biological fluid of said mammal and compare the measured level of the biomarker (s) with a reference value, where a deviation from said reference value is indicative of the presence, risk, progression or severity of AD , and wherein said set of biomarkers comprises a protein or ribonucleic acid (RNA) encoded by each of the following genes: APBA1, ATG7, BECN1, CD44, CDH2, COL18A1, ERBB4, F3, FLNA, FYN, GRIN2B, IL20, ITPR1, LRP8, MTOR, NPPC, NRP1, PDGFC, ROBO1, SEMA3E, TGFB1, THBS1, VEGFR1 and WWOX. |
